The wheel paintings emerge from the spiral series and, like the ladder sculptures, have symbolic undertones related to metaphor and structure. While there is some inspiration drawn from Ezekiel's vision of a wheel within a wheel in the Bible, they also reflect Robbins' interest in simple machine structures, as seen in his see-saw series.
